Conversational AI comes to restaurants. It (hopefully) makes sense.
I don’t love covering two similar product releases in one edition of this newsletter, but the injection of AI into every conceivable piece of technology has sped up the product release cycle and I can only send so many emails without wearing out my welcome. While Expedite* figures out how to handle the glut of releases promising restaurants transformational tech, I’ll continue to cut through the hype and highlight the trends worth following.

Two major point of sale providers, Square and Toast, recently added conversational AI to their platforms, essentially brokering access to an all-knowing, well-spoken expert on your individual restaurant. These updates have the potential to turn computers into coworkers and represent one of the most practical — and exciting, IMO — uses of technology inside restaurants.
